HOW CAN ROTARY CLUBS HELP WITH

DISTRICT 7500 HURRICANE DISASTER RELIEF?

Here are some options for your membership to consider:

1.  Donate non perishable food and send to 15 Meridian Rd, Eatontown, contact Russell Anderson (732-544-1800).  Why food?  Folks in many cases are living on the second floor of their homes and the first floor, which was destroyed, has not yet been rebuilt.  Other folks are not even back in their homes and living in very temporary facilities and hot meals are through food kitchens etc. Send these food items to our main distribution center as they are NEEDED NOW.  (After the holidays donations have dropped dramatically.)

2.  Folks who have suffered extensive damages lost appliances.  Send gently used or new appliances to Russell Anderson (see above).  You might consider washer, dryer, coffee makers etc.

3.  Folks lost furniture.  If you have gently used furniture (be sure they do not have any cloth or padding on them) please deliver to Russell for distribution (see above).

4.  In the city of Union Beach, 300 homes washed away and 1800 of the remaining 2000 homes need extensive repairs in order to live in them again.

The cost for sheetrock and insulation to enclose an average size house is $820.  Consider donating the cost for enclosing one house or more.  In this cold weather it is important to enclose as many houses as possible..  Make the check payable to "The Forked River Rotary Club Foundation" (District 7500 does not have a 501c3 foundation yet) and mail to me, DG Joan Vas, 10 Edgewater Dr, Matawan, NJ 07747.  I will order the goods and have them delivered to UB.  The town administrator keeps them under lock and key.  They are distributed as volunteers arrive to help in rebuilding.

5.  If you know of particular families, please feel free to "adopt" and assist them as needed.

6.  Hands-on volunteers needed!

If you have skilled folks in hanging sheetrock& installing insulation who are willing to volunteer call the Union Beach town administrator, Jennifer Maier 732-264-3026.

These volunteers should have a tool belt, hammer, if possible – an electric screw gun.  Volunteers should call the number above at least one day before actually working.  You will be given a specific house to work on with a specific assignment.  The materials will be waiting for you at the designated location.

Volunteer should report to Boro Hall, 650 Poole Avenue, Union Beach, NJ to sign a hold harmless clause before beginning work.  The work day is from 9am to 4pm, Monday –Saturday.

There are now 1880 homes in need of this type of work.  Rotary District 7500 has just supplied materials for 20 homes and as the supply is utilized, more will be coming.

Thank you for all your greatly needed assistance.
