DICTIONARY PROJECT
For the second year, the Rotary Club of
Asbury Park has completed distribution of dictionaries to
every third grader in its service area as part of its
literary effort. The club takes part in the national
"Dictionary Project" which enables service clubs and
individuals to provide these resource books to children in
public and private schools throughout the nation.
The Asbury Park Rotary distributed the
dictionaries to all elementary schools in Asbury Park,
Neptune Township, Ocean Township, Neptune City and Bradley
Beach. They were met with enthusiastic thanks from district
and school staff, parents, and most importantly, the
students who have been able to utilize these books in
various projects assigned by their teachers as well as in
independent reading and writing. Club members have enjoyed
reading the thank-you notes the grateful students.
Funds to provide the dictionaries are
raised at Rotary's annual Starlite Chorale Concert, a
musical presentation that takes place each September and
benefits the Rotary Club Scholarship and Projects Funds.
For over fifteen years the Asbury Park Rotary Club has
provided scholarships to students from Asbury Park, Neptune,
Ocean Township and Academy Charter High Schools.
