Wed Jan 9 - Fred Carl of InfoAge located at the former Camp Evans will give us an update of their 'labor of love' project to preserve the history of Camp Evans.  Check out the InfoAge website.

Wed Jan 16 - Claire Pavlinec, Mrs. New Jersey for 2007 / 2008, will speak about the Mrs. New Jersey America pageant and her charity called Maternal Wings Click on her picture to view Claire and prior Mrs. New Jersey winners at a charity function for children from December.

Wed Jan 23 - William "Skip" Hidley Executive Editor and Vice-President from the Asbury Park Press will be with us.  His talk will center around the Press's new format and easy access for calendar and story items.

Wed Jan 30 - Don Pignatore from Holiday Express will talk about the group's mission.  Check out the Holiday Express website.

Wed Feb 6 - Susan Pellegrini, one of our new members, will share details about her exciting film project documenting the life and works of Stephen Crane here in Asbury Park.  See her website at Synergy Productions.  Also, learn more about Stephen Crane.

Wed Feb 13 - The Honorable Lawrence Lawson will be with us to tell us about the changes that have been implemented with the County and State Court System. Learn more about NJ Courts.

Wed Feb 20 - Gale Wayman will be speaking about improving the image of the USA through Inter-national volunteerism.  Gale is a member of the Toms River Evening Club and  has the distinction of being a Rotary World Peace Fellow.  Read a recent article.  Gale is also active with a worldwide group of Rotarians that promote World Peace.  Though not associated with Rotary International, RIFPD has Rotarians from every country in the world as members.

Wed Feb 27 - Brian Mullins will talk about his field of Physical Therapy.  Did you know Brian owns and runs Eastern Monmouth Physical Therapy located in Neptune.

Wed Mar 5 - Doug Eagles, son of our former Rotary member Loren, will talk about ASLAN Youth Ministries of Red Bank.  Aslan is a wonderful organization that has helped many youth make it to adulthood.  He will share about their work projects for the underprivileged.

Wed Mar 12 - Numa Saisselin, Executive Director of the Count Basie Theater, will share about the history and restoration of this wonderful landmark in the heart of Red Bank.

Wed Mar 19 - Jeff Breen, President of the Board, spoke in place of Michael Pollack, General Manager of Deal Golf & Country Club.  He will be describing the renovations that will be going on at the club over the next several months and also spend a few minutes on what is involved in being the General Manager of a Country Club.

Wed Mar 26 - Tyler Blackmore, the new principal of APHS, will be with us.  He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and is very community oriented.  And most important, his father is a Rotarian.

Wed Apr 9 - Steve Littleson from Jersey Shore University Medical Center will give us an update on Jersey Shore's expansion program.  Check out JSUMC's website.

Wed Apr 16 - Bob Cohen, one of our club's newest members and Director of Development for Easter Seals NJ, will share about his organization's unique mission and it's connection with Rotary.

Wed Apr 23 - Fran Gallagher, Executive Director of NJ Pediatric Council on Research and Education (NJ PCORE), will talk about the group's mission to improve health policies and practices for kids.  Read more at NJPCORE.org.

Wed Apr 30 - Liza Guthridge of Community Partnership for Healthy Adolescents will talk to us about the group's mission to instill positive health habits and to reduce harmful, risk-taking behaviors related to violence, substance abuse, and pregnancy in adolescents living in Asbury Park and Long Branch. 

Wed May 7 - David Legg, a Rotarian from the Tinton Falls club and regular visitor to ours, will be discussing the District's International Water Project. He has been giving these talks at clubs throughout the District as well as the District Conference.  David is an excellent speaker and it should be an entertaining, interesting and informative presentation.

Wed May 14 - Paul McEvily, the associate Executive Director of Interfaith Neighbors will give us an update of their Mission.

Wed May 21 - John W. Callinan, a certified elder attorney, will talk to us about Medicaid planning and the importance of Living Wills, Powers of Attorney and Trusts.  Paul is one of about 50 Certified Elder Law Attorneys in NJ.

Wed May 28 - Dr. Richard Ponton, Director of the Human Services Department of Ocean Township (which includes the Recreation Dept.), Rich will be speaking to us about the reopened Colonial Terrace Golf Course.  He'll also share about the First Tee Organization making the Colonial Terrace their home course for Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Wed Jun 4 - Jon Leidersdorff, owner of Lakehouse Music Production Company and former Asbury Music Awards winner, and Scott Stamper, owner of the Saint and co-founder of the Wave Gathering music event in Asbury will be speaking.  This event is a huge music festival modeled after the International one held in Austin, TX each year.  Both will be speaking about the importance of the music scene to Asbury and its role in the revitalization.

Wed Jun 18 - Scott Hoffman, Executive Administrative Officer of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, who will speak about the OGCMA and planned activities for the summer.

Wed Jun 25 - Tom Arnone, Mayor of Neptune City, will talk about Neptune City's Redevelopment Plan.

Wed Jul 2 - Robert Taylor, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Asbury Park, will be our speaker.  Robert is well known to all of us and might be the only Kiwanian in history to have perfect attendance at a Rotary Club!  Seriously, Robert will share with us the wonderful happening at the Boys and Girls Club.

Wed Jul 9 - Club Assembly - Our new president Sandy Brown will be laying our plans for his year.  All major Committees held organizational meetings and goals were set.   Membership is set to increase our membership to 65.

Wed Jul 16 - John Shaw of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association spoke to us about the 8th largest pipe organ in the world.  Located in the Great Auditorium.

Wed Jul 23 - Dick Isackson, former District Governor, will be speaking about the many relief projects Rotary gets involved in including the Shelter Box program.

Sat Jul 26 - Beach Party - Our annual beach party will be held right on the beach in Allenhurst at Adrienne's home - 2 Allen Avenue.  Times are 11 am to 5 pm.   Don't forget your sunscreen.  Cost $15 pp and kids under 12 are free.

Wed Jul 30 - Tom Morrissey - Co- Executive Director of the ReVision Theatre of Asbury Park will be sharing exciting details of their upcoming production of Hair at the Carousel Section of the Casino.  Go to www.ReVisionTheatre.org for more details, dates and ticket prices.

Wed Aug 6 - Dan Cortez, our new District Governor, will be with us.  This is his official visit with the club to share his vision for the District and the World and to offer support to new president and board.  Board Members and Committee Chairs are to arrive by 11:30 to have a brief meeting with Dan.

Sad News - Club Member Ed Mautner Dies.

EDWARD M. MAUTNER, 89, of INTERLAKEN BOROUGH
EDWARD M. MAUTNER, 89, of INTERLAKEN BOROUGH, died Sunday, May 25 at home. Ed graduated from Asbury Park High School and attended Rider College. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the European Theater and was awarded two Battle Stars and the Foreign Service Ribbon, before serving 25 years in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Ed was former deputy director of II Corps U.S. Army Reserve Marksmanship Program and was awarded the U.S. War Department's Distinguished Rifleman's Medal. He was a former member of the Interlaken Borough Council and served as Interlaken assessor. Ed was a past member of the Deal Lake Commission, the Interlaken Recreation Committee and a Community Development representative. He was a self-employed real estate and insurance broker, and New Jersey licensed real estate appraiser. He was a former member and chairman of the board of directors of the Keystone Savings and Loan Association, and a member of the board of directors of the Jersey Shore Savings and Loan Association. He was a member of the Board of Governors of Jersey Shore Medical Center and a member of the Joint Advisory Committee of Meridian Health System. He was a communicant, trustee and usher for Holy Spirit Church, Asbury Park and past president of the church's Holy Name Society. Ed was a former safety inspector for Monmouth Council Boy Scouts of America. He belonged to the Asbury Park Rotary Club (where he was a Paul Harris Fellow), the Retired Officers Club, VFW Post 1333 and the American Legion Post 24. Ed loved fishing and the outdoors, and was known as the "Beachmaster" at Loch Arbor Village Beach, where he was a member for over 70 years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ryan Mautner in 1999. Surviving are two sons and their spouses, Edward M. Jr. and Helen Mautner of Roundville Va., and John J. and Ellen Mautner of Fair Haven; three daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret Bentz of Asbury Park, Mary L. Mautner of Long Branch, and Elizabeth R. and Thomas Porter of Middletown; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Ave., Asbury Park. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Spirit Church, Asbury Park. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Neptune. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either Meridian Hospice or Holy Spirit Church Restoration Fund.

HUBIE R. PIERCE, of NEPTUNE
HUBIE R. PIERCE, of NEPTUNE, departed this life Tuesday, July 1, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He graduated from Neptune High [[/obitpix,ob06rpie School in 1958. While in Neptune High School, he earned many varsity letters in baseball, and football. He furthered his education by attending the American Academy-McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, graduating in 1966. After receiving his license from the State of New Jersey as a practitioner of Mortuary Science, he started his career as a funeral director under the late F. Leon Harris Funeral Homes in Asbury Park and Red Bank. He became a funeral director for the James H. Hunt Funeral Home in 1970, and was mentored by Mr. James H. Hunt. He was a co-founder and a charter member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle, Asbury Park, where he was president of the Tabernacle Choir for many years, and was on the board of directors of its Shore Community Child Care Center. He was well known for his singing ability, having formed many gospel groups, the most prominent group was the Spiritual Keys. Hubie is a member of Mt. Pisgah Masonic Lodge No. 48; Samuel Gordon Consistory No. 50; Mahja Temple No. 47; Adah Chapter No. 17 OES,PHA; The Asbury Park Rotary Club, of which he served on the board of directors and was past president; past president of the Whitesville School P.T.A.; proud coach of the Neptune Girls softball league "BEARS" that won many championships for him and a past member of the Neptune Police Reserve.

He was predeceased by his father, James E. Pierce, Sr. and his brother, James E. Pierce, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 48 years, Celestine Carolyn Pierce; a daughter, Deidra Carolyn Calderon, of Neptune; his mother, Rosenetta V. Pierce, of Neptune; two brothers, Eric N. Pierce, of Reading, Pa.; and Gyse D. Pierce a sister, Nadine R. Hardy, both of Neptune; a granddaughter, Maria Luisa Miti, of Neptune; an uncle, Eddie L. Pierce, and his wife, Geraldine, of Neptune; three sisters-in-law, Brenda E. Mallory, of Dolphin, Va., Doris Mitchell, of Bricktown, and Gladys Dickerson, of Neptune; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Albert E. Mallory, Sr., of Dolphin, Va.; two foster brothers, Isaiah and Larry Fisher, Jr.; one foster sister, Janet Watt, and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Living Word Christian Fellowship Church, Hwy 35, Neptune, with the Rev. Cedric Miller, Pastor, officiating. Interment is at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Cotton Funeral Service, Orange, is in charge of arrangements.

MONICA MARY McPHERSON, 46, of BRADLEY BEACH
MONICA MARY McPHERSON, 46, of BRADLEY BEACH, passed away Tuesday, July 29, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden, with her mother and father at her side. Monica was a graduate of Asbury Park High School, the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration and a Masters Degree in National Security Studies. She was a graduate of Seton Hall Law School. She worked as an attorney for various law firms and most recently worked as an attorney for the State of New Jersey in Trenton. She was a former member of the Asbury Park Rotary Club.

She is survived by her parents, James P. and Marguerite Ann McPherson; her five brothers, Capt. James B., U.S.C.G., John, Patrick, Commodore Brendan, U.S.C.G., and Michael; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at 9 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at the Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Ave., Bradley Beach.

 

 

 

The other 4 members are:  Carol DiCola, pictured on the right, is the Manager for the West Park Avenue branch of Commerce Bank in Ocean.  Carol has been in banking for 5 years and worked for the Essex County Meals on Wheels for 15 years, serving as their director the last of her years with them.  She is quite involved with many local charities and she serves as VP of the Ocean Township Chamber of Commerce.  She was invited to Rotary by Joan Desmarais.   Carol and her husband Tom live in New Egypt.

Susan Pellegrini, shown on the left, is a movie producer and director.  She owns Synergy Productions located right in Asbury Park where she also lives.  Susan spoke to our club a few weeks back sharing  her feature work about the life of Stephen Crane who lived on Fourth Avenue.  Penny McDaniel is Susan's sponsor.

Bob Cohen , pictured on the right, was invited to attend our club by another Rotarian from north New Jersey.  Bob is the Director of Development for Easter Seals New Jersey, located in East Brunswick.  Bob and his wife Paula call Ocean Township home.  A little known fact about Easter Seals is that Edgar Allen and his fellow Rotarians from Ohio founded the Easter Seals organization in 1919.  Read about the History of Easter Seals, it is quite moving.  And more about its Rotary Connection.

Kathy King was invited to attend Rotary by Hunt Parry.  Kathy is the daughter of a former club member Bob Deeves.  Kathy is Vice President of Business Development for Central Jersey Bank in Sea Girt.  Kathy and her husband reside in Interlaken.
