Nicknames

of the Rotarians of the

Rotary Club of Asbury Park

Did'ja have a nickname when you were growing up? Did you get one as a kid or going to high school or at college and have it stick...just a little?

...and not just the standard nickname like John Everson. Dude is much better but that really doesn't count 'cause the guy that dubbed him Dude didn't even know him.

If you did, share it with us by mailing it to: WPWapRotary<AT>aol.com Tell us HOW you got it, too.

OK, I'll start. I'm still known as Wimpy by everyone I see from college (St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y. BS in 1965) and even a couple "locals." Whenever we were out of our dorm room, all freshmen were required to wear Scarlet and Brown beanies (they did have a small peak, though) and a large sign hung around our necks that told our full name, our chosen nickname and our home town. The beanie had no particular purpose but the sign worked well and all the frosh learned each other's names very quickly. Because my name is so long, instead of spelling it all out, it read:

Wm. P. Walton, III
Bill
Asbury Park, N. J.

Get it? Get it?

Wm. P. = Wimpy. Some even call me Wimp for short.

WImpy Walton

I'm known as "BUCK". I don't even think that it needs explaining but there it is.

Buck Buckley

At school my nickname was Smurf due to my diminutive size back then (hard to believe, I know!!) and very blonde/white hair. Recently Jeanie's cousins have dubbed me The Rooster! Apparently they had a school friend, last name Ross, so they called him "Rossy Rooster". Now I'm The Rooster! Let's hear some more nicknames.

Ross, The Rooster

OK, who's next? Iffen some of you don't give it up, I'll have to do some searchin' and you never know what I'll come up with.
