RE: The Rotary Club of Asbury Park "Website Folkways"

FROM: Bill Walton, Webperson

I hope you enjoy and especially, find good use of the Rotary Club of Asbury Park's Website. If it doesn't serve a purpose and fulfill a need, no one will visit it...and if no one visits it, why have it. The other end of that equasion is that if it's not good enough to make you want or need to visit it, I'm sure you won't.

To that end I'd like your input as to it's usefulness...TO YOU!..and how you'd like to see it improved.

You can let me know your thoughts in any mode...tell me when you see me,
phone me, but best, write me an e-mail WPWapRotary<at>aol.com . In my old age, I've learned to take criticism well...I know not to take critical comments personally so don't hesitate to say what's on your mind (I'm not promising the changes you suggest but I will listen and consider your suggestions). I solicit new ideas that will enhance the website...ideas for new pages and new features. Not glitzy stuff though, but rather, useful stuff.

The following is pretty much how the site will operate.

The site is still under construction...and may never be totally "finished". When this note was written, there was the Home Page, a Calendar Page, a Roster Page, a Projects Page, a Make-Up Locations Page, a general comments page, a Membership Application page, an Outside Links Page...even a map to see how to get to the center of our universe, Parkhills. :-)

The newest page is (was) the
Membership Application Page...maybe by the time you read this, there'll be another page or two.

Now that you're here, when you are finished reading this information, link back to the HOME PAGE and SAVE the location as a FAVORITE site in your browser and you won't have to remember that long address next time you want to visit this site.

The full typeable address is;
http://www.AsburyParkRotary.org/index.html [You can copy this string of characters and paste it into the "go to" box on your browser then GO. You might also highlight the full address above, and drag it to your "go to" box and GO...depending on your software. You CAN do that on a Macintosh in AOL :-D ]

Several of us have digital cameras and digitized picchers can be placed on the site rather easily...they need to be JPEG or GIF format and you can e-mail them to me for consideration. (If you do, you MUST describe the attachment in the body of the e-mail that you send to me...I don't download attachments that I don't know [or have some idea about] the contents of, even if I know who sent them.)

Keeping the site accurate and current is a hard job so I will need all the help you can give me to both develop and add timely info and update info that changes as time goes on. The HOME Page has a date at the bottom that changes automatically, every time I change the site...every time that new information is added or changed...so you can see how recently the contents have been reviewed. I will be asking anyone who will be developing ongoing information to continually send that information to me VIA E-MAIL so that I can 1) keep the site current AND 2) so that I don't have to retype handwritten or verbal information into the site. I will maintain the site as best I can but I won't type everything...you type the stuff you want me to use and e-mail it to me...I'll cut and paste it to the site.

By the way, I'd appreciate the stuff you send me to be IN the E-MAIL ITSELF...not as an attachment. Those who I will depend on especially will be the President and the Program Chairs and, of course, everyone else who has pertinent information. IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION THAT SHOULD GO ONTO THE WEBSITE, E-MAIL IT TO ME.

All (but a few) RCoAP members' e-mail addresses are on the roster page and you are able to click, drag, copy and paste those addresses to a new email (at least you will if you have a Macintosh...I don't know about those PeeCees).

CORRECTIONS
Whenever anyone finds a mistake, or a typo, or a link that doesn't or anything else that needs to be changed, please e-mail the proper information to me...DON'T!!! just tell me that it's wrong [because I've used the best information at my disposal to put the current information on the site...if what's there is wrong, I don't know the "right" info...you, or someone else, needs to tell me the correct information].

IF YOU THINK A PAGE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED:
While you are viewing a page that has an error, you should be able to tell your browser to print that page. Once printed, you can mark your suggested changes and hand me the corrected page at a meeting [or mail it to me or if the change is simple, e-mail me the suggestion - be specific about the location on the site], That way, I can collect your suggestions and not forget them by the time I sit at my computer to make changes. It will be easiest for me if you give my any corrections in writing or if you e-mail me the exact wordings that I might use or need.

The ONLINE RCoAP ROSTER PAGE:
As you can see from the Roster Page, a lot of info is missing...Rotary International has a policy that forbids the display of any member's personal phone numbers or e-mail addresses without his written permission. In recognition of that policy, I will ONLY post YOUR information if YOU AUTHORIZE me to in an e-mail or in writing (or by e-mail). IF YOU WANT YOUR INFORMATION POSTED ON THE WEBSITE, YOU MUST SEND ME AN E-MAIL AND AUTHORIZE ME TO POST THE SPECIFIC INFORMATION ...your NAME and your SPOUSE's NAME will be posted but NOT your phones and e-mail address UNTIL YOU AUTHORIZE IT. DO IT NOW!

HYPERLINKS TO OTHER SITES:
If you want to suggest that I include a hyperlink to another site to our LINKS Page, send me that hyperlink address with an explanation of what that site is and why you think that link should be on the RCoAP site and I will CONSIDER IT...no promises, though. I will NOT post information that can be found somewhere else but if it has to do with the Rotary Club of Asbury Park or you as a Rotarian, I probably will post a link to it.

YOUR PERSONAL OR BUSINESS WEBSITE:
I will include a link to your personal home page or to your business' website if you specifically ask me to...you can make that request on the same e-mail that you authorize the posting of your phone numbers and your e-address if you choose. E-mail me that address in the full form, i.e.,

http://www.__________________________

along with a FEW words as a description [see those already listed on the LINKS Page].

If you don't have a personal web page, we will host one here for you but you must initiate the process and give us the information you want posted to your personal web page.

COMMITTEE PAGES:
If you are a Committee Chair and want something posted to either the COMMITTEES Page or the the CALENDAR Page, e-mail that information to me.

CALENDAR PAGE:
If a date or event is missing from the CALENDAR Page and you know ALL the details...you know...Who-What-When-Where-Why-How and What Time, etc., etc., e-mail that info to me and I'll post it.

That leads me to this final disclaimer. If the Board of Directors directs me to eliminate something, I will, or if they ask me to add something, I will...if YOU ask me to remove something about you that is incorrect, I will. If you want something added, I will consider it...or you can present it to the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors of the RCoAP has complete control of the entire contents of this site, but in the absence of direction from the BoD, I will control the contents of the site to the best of my ability.

Comments are always welcome.

Mores (pronounced like the eel) and Folkways are USUALLY unwritten, more or less cultural, laws or "standards" and Mores are stronger than Folkways.
Rotary International publishes Rotary's Mores!
