Asbury Park Rotary Supports Gift of Life

President Traudy announced at the District 7500 Gift of Life Foundation annual meeting that Asbury Park Rotary is presenting a check for $1000 to save children's lives.  The GOLF is an organization of Rotary clubs in our district that raises money to support heart surgery for poor children with congenital heart defects in developing countries.  Without this help, these children would surely die. Arlene Schwartz, board president and Brick Morning Rotarian, moderated the August 18, 2105 evening's events with dinner at the Clarion Hotel in Toms River.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Andrew Lodge, pediatric heart surgeon from Duke University Medical Center and leader of two GOLF missions to the Philippines.  Dr. Lodge showed a presentation detailing everything involved from transporting the equipment and personnel to screening the children to performing the surgeries. About 20 children have been saved by his two trips and he is planning more.

A total of $30,000 was donated by the Rotary clubs in District 7500 at the dinner.  Traudy set our club's goal for this year at $1000 and made sure it was met through deposits in the blue table buckets at our weekly meetings, her own personal check, a fund raiser by Catherine and the rest from the club's treasury.  Jim sent his own check for $250 and HJ added her own $100 which brought our club total to $1350.  This is a record donation for our club to GOLF.  Accompanying Traudy to the meeting was Gary, a GOLF board trustee.
