On Saturday, April 9, 2022, the Rotary Club of Asbury Park partnered with a local nonprofit Save Coastal Wildlife to install an Osprey nest pole near the mouth of the Matawan creek in Keyport, New Jersey.

Teamwork was the key for success throughout this volunteer project! Very muddy and wet conditions from recent stormy weather made installing a new osprey platform difficult, but no one gave up, and the 3rd "dug hole" was a charm!

Check out photos and video below to see a recap of the project. Thank you to all Rotarians and volunteers who participated in this hands-on service project. Thank you "Save Coastal Wildlife" for the important work you do in our coastal communities!

Rotary Volunteer Service Project - Osprey Nest Pole Installation

Rotarians Dina Blackwood and Ellen Koprar helped on the "hoisting team" — responsible for raising the 20ft / 100+ lb pole.
Rotarian Jackie Boruch jumped right into the mud — helping out on the "dig team" where she and other volunteers worked to dig a 4ft hole in the marsh, aka "pluff mud".

Rotarian Brian Mullins was in the mud plenty, too! He was an integral part of the "logistics team" — determining the correct angle and maneuvers to position the Osprey pole, and secure it into place.
